Overview

Local businesses are important to help an area grow economically, to feel lively and vibrant, as well as build community. Similarly, parks and other public places are essential for community building as they provide spaces for people to come together and create a sense of belonging among its residents. Currently, a business page can be found on Nextdoor with general information about the business and their latest activity. However, parks, trails, and other points of interest can only be found in posts that users struggle to find again later, even if they bookmark them. Users are looking for information and community around these places and try to do that with the existing product by creating a business page for a local park, only for it to be empty and abandoned because the product wasn't built to support non-businesses.

Goal

We wanted to help users easily find and create community around the places they care about, whether it's a business, a park, or a trail.

Outcome

I developed a strategy and multi-quarter project plan to expand Nextdoor's pages ecosystem to include points of interest, and a new product called Placelists. These features work together to unlock tremendous utility, enabling the user to discover, curate, and share about the places they care about, in order to build community and create a sense of belonging.

Additional details to be added shortly. Reach out in the meantime if you want to learn more.
